On Thursday (1 August), we had the amazing help of a group of US sailors from the visiting ship USS George Washington, thanks to our friend Megan. Here’s Di’s report from the day:
“We had a visit today by the US Navy. There were amazing people and worked hard to move 11 cubic metres of mulch, prune all our trees and plant some more. It was an amazing experience meeting such lovely people and have a garden transformation.
My Uncle Gary was also amazing in advising what we needed in terms of tools, mulch, and the size of skip. He also organised thank you presents for all the sailors. Megan, one of the mums from the school organised the visit which was so very generous of her. They all had a taste of vegemite sandwiches and they were very polite in saying that they liked them. Megan bought enough pies with peas for everyone and these were a real hit. We are so grateful to Megan and her husband Peter for organising the visit and the US Navy sailors who volunteered to come and help during their short stay in port.”
Di’s great friend Nicole was also on hand to help with morning tea, and to those who lent tools and wheelbarrows for the day, it was much appreciated. The transformation was amazing.
